Hardener

MEKP (methyl ethyl ketone peroxide) is a liquid polymerization initiator used to cure unsaturated polyester and vinylester resins at room temperature. Our MEKP is supplied in a phlegmatized solution for safer handling and reliable performance.

Fibre Tech polyester resin
Polyester
  • Overview: Polyester resin is the industry’s most common, cost effective composite resin. It cures with MEKP and provides quick, reliable laminating for general-purpose composite work.
  • Characteristics: Polyester resin cures quickly and provides good dimensional stability; it is available as ortho (general) and ISO (higher‑grade, stiffer, more corrosion‑resistant) types, produces a tacky surface unless a surfacing agent or finishing resin is used, and is easy to work with for hand lay‑up and spray‑up processes.
How It's Used

Usage and Applications

Always follow the resin manufacturer’s recommended catalyst ratio and working instructions. Use proper PPE, measure accurately, avoid contamination, and store MEKP in a cool, well ventilated area away from heat and direct sunlight.

Typical use and dosing

  • Standard dosing: 1.25%–1.75% by weight (approximately 1 2/3 oz to 2 1/3 oz per US gallon).
  • Duratec-grade resins: 2.0% by weight (approximately 2 2/3 oz per US gallon), as required by product specifications.
