Pigments

Pigments are concentrated colour pastes that you mix into gelcoat or polyester resin to give a part its colour. A little goes a long way, and because the colour runs all the way through the material, small scratches show far less than they would on a painted surface.

How It Works

Colour Pigments

Tins of colour
Pigment Paste
  • Overview: Strong, ready-to-use colour paste for gelcoat and polyester resin.
  • Characteristics: It gives a deep, even colour, and colours can be blended together to create custom shades.
  • Typical uses: Coloured gelcoat for tubs, showers and boats, tinting laminating resin, and colour matching on repairs.
Colour pigments
How Much to Add
  • Solid colours: About 5% to 6% of the resin weight (roughly 50 to 60 g of pigment per 1 kg of resin).
  • Never more than 10%: Too much pigment can weaken the resin and slow or spoil the cure, and it will not make the colour any deeper.
  • See-through tints: Start at 1% or less and add more slowly.
  • Mixing: Stir the pigment in before adding hardener. Mix slowly and thoroughly, scraping the sides, to avoid streaks.
  • Tip: Try a small test batch first and write down your recipe so you can match the colour next time.
How It's Used

Usage and Applications

Pigments let you build colour right into the part. They are used across our own products, from bathtubs and shower units to furniture and playground equipment, and they are just as useful for matching the colour of a repair.

Usage / Applications

  • Coloured gelcoat for bathtubs, showers and boats
  • Tinting laminating resin
  • Colour matching repairs
  • Custom colours for furniture and playground equipment

Safety tips

  • Wear gloves. Pigment paste stains skin and clothes.
  • Keep lids tightly closed and stir each tin well before use.
